Pardon Me Please

Name every US president. Put them in the right terms.

Sixty presidential terms sit on a board, labelled by the year each began. Type a president's name from memory to unlock them, then tap the terms they served. Check your work, take a hint, or push on unaided — every choice costs or earns points. Finish when you're ready and see how much you actually knew.

Questions

A name I typed wasn't accepted.

Spelling is forgiving, but ten presidents share a surname with another president — the Adamses, Harrisons, Johnsons, Roosevelts, and Bushes. For those, a first name is required. Common nicknames work too: Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, Ike.

Why do some circles have a line through them?

Nine terms had two occupants, because a president died or resigned partway through. Tap the circle and you can assign one president to the part of the term they served and another to the rest.

Why does one president need more than one term?

Several served multiple terms, and two — Grover Cleveland and Donald Trump — served terms that weren't consecutive. Franklin D. Roosevelt holds four.

Can I undo a placement?

Tap a filled circle while that president is showing and it clears. Tap it while someone else is showing and it brings that president back up, which saves scrolling through the row of portraits.

Does my progress save?

Yes. Games and scores are kept on your device so you can see whether you're improving. Deleting the app clears them.

Where do the portraits come from?

All portraits are in the public domain — official federal photographs, Library of Congress holdings, and works published before 1930.
